The Space:  The North Star Hall is about 2000 sq ft in size ready for your event. Feel free to organize chairs and tables as you see fit, or to bring in your own. Your group may also wish to enjoy the surrounding lawns to the west of the entrance driveway.

Tables and chairs:  We have a limited number of tables and chairs for general use.  

​

Heating/cooling:  Heating and air conditioning are provided by a brand new heat pump with 3 wall-mounted units, 2 on the main level and 1 on the second floor.

​

WIFI: The North Star Hall has wifi.  The router is situated on the baker's rack and shows the password.

​

Parking:  Approximately 10 - 15 cars can be accommodated on our paved area and approximately the same number on the grass.  People also park along the side of Wilmer Road.  We have brightly coloured cones to warn on-coming traffic. For very large groups, you may wish to designate one person to organize parking.

Washrooms:  In the adjacent building, 10 steps from The North Star Hall, is a washroom with 2 modern stalls and sink.  Access is from the outside (see gallery). For backup, there is also an outhouse.

​

Food & Drink: The North Star Hall does not have its own kitchen or water source.  The adjacent building has an external tap and there is water in the washrooms.  Guests are welcome, though, to use the mini-fridge, microwave oven, and Nespresso machine that are on a `baker's rack', on the main floor of the venue. We have a limited supply of bottled water and Nespresso capsules (VertuoLine).

Projector/presentations: Half of the second floor of the venue is a space for presentations (the other half contains some of the library). The presentation area has a screen that is operated from  a remote control. The screen covers the window for darkness. The projector is an Epson EX3280 with an HDMI connector.  Users should bring their own laptop or related device. In addition, there is a two-sided white-board that is portable.

Library: This is a personal library that guests may peruse.   Please make sure that books are treated carefully and returned to the right place. In the future, we may include a borrowing aspect to the library, but not yet. 

​

Piano: Guests are welcome to play and enjoy the piano.  It is an older upright that has recently been serviced and tuned (but we've noticed a couple of keys that still stick).  It has a very nice sound and has provided lots of joy to a variety of gatherings.

Telescopes:  There are two telescopes in the hall. One is for nighttime observing and one is for observing the Sun.  These are specialized, sensitive instruments and are not part of a regular rental of The North Star Hall.  However, with some arm twisting,  Judith would be willing to show your group the Sun (prominences, sunspots)  if it is clear and time permits.

Safety and accessibility: There are 3 fire extinguishers, two on the main floor and 1 on the second. A hand sanitizer station is by the main entrance.  Fire regulations require that no more than 90 people can be accommodated in the hall. The main floor is wheel chair accessible but the washrooms are not. The North Star Hall is a smoke-free environment.
